SOUNDBITE: (English) Alastair Cook, England Test team captain:

"it's always important that we win, you know. When you're playing for England you carry the hopes and the pride of the nation on your shoulders. That has not changed since the day I started playing, and obviously when England first started playing cricket, whoever were the lucky 11 to play for England (then) and carry that responsibility on their shoulders. And we want to win, because we're a proud nation."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alistair Cook, England Test team captain:

"You know, there's good competition for places, you know. The guys will be desperate to put on a show, to try and get their name on that 11. I mean, I've got some new faces, obviously Adam Lyth, Woody (Mark Wood), Adil (rashid) coming back, you know, really different characters and it'll great to see how they go in an England shirt."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alistair Cook, England Test team captain:

"Ever since Straussy (Andrew Strauss) announced his retirement, (we) obviously haven't quite found consistency in that position (opening batsman), so whoever gets that chance gets the opportunity again to try and nail it down."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alistair Cook, England Test team captain:

"That is always unknown, there's a lot of things about selection which are unknown until you're put in the pressure cooker of international cricket, and make no mistake, it's a high intensity environment, there's no doubt about that. But Trotty's (Jonathan Trott) done everything asked of him, he feels confident in himself and, as I said, he's just looking forward to taking that next step."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alistair Cook, England Test team captain:

"At the time, I would've been surprised that he came back, but huge credit to the work he's done, you know, off the field and the effort he's put in. That obviously shows his desire to come back to play for England."
