  • Intro:

Serena Williams has thrashed Carla Suarez Navarro to claim her eighth Miami Open title.

    Script:

A familiar walk for Serena Williams.

Seven times she's been crowned champion at the Miami Open.

Carla Suarez Navarro is all that stood between her and an eighth title.

    The Spaniard started well,

But it didn't take long for Williams to take control and run away with the match.

She took the first set 6-2 after blasting 16 winners in just over 30 minutes.

The world number one faced a break point for the first time in the match at the start of the second set, but three superb serves saved her.

From there, a period of total dominance for the American - she won 23 of the next 25 points to take the title 6-2 6-0 and become just the fourth woman in history to win the same WTA tournament at least eight times.

Williams now heads to the European clay-court season in the midst of a 21-match winning streak.

For Suarez Navarro, some kind of consolation - she'll enter the world's top 10 for the first time in her career.
