Team Abu Dhabi lead tight race in extreme conditions

Saturday, April 04 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

The lead changes hands three times in one night in the Volvo Ocean Race as one skipper says conditions are making sailing similar to "riding a rodeo machine".

    Script:

These are extreme conditions for the teams as they near the end of the fifth leg of the Volvo Ocean Race. One captain says it is like riding on a rodeo machine.

Four teams remain in with a chance of winning, it's so tight there were three changes in the lead overnight.

Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing came out in front at dawn though.

Team Alvimedica had held the lead as did leg four winner MAPFRE for a time too.

Despite being adrift, Team Brunel are still in contention and are just over 14 nautical miles behind.

They'll be hoping to close that gap before Abu Dhabi reach Itajai in Brazil, which is now just over 500 nautical miles away.
