Montoya wins IndyCar season opener

  • Intro:

Former Formula One driver Juan Pablo Montoya wins the first race of the 2015 IndyCar Series in St. Petersburg, Florida.

    Script:

The first test of IndyCar champion Will Power's will power to defend his title came in St Petersburg in Florida. The Australian started on pole and so unlike others he didn't have traffic to deal with on the first corner.

The first contact of the new season was between Carlos Munoz and Simona de Silvestro, both managed to finish the race. Nowhere near the front though, and it was a bad day too for Scott Dixon who had a carjack failure in this pitstop... it really did feel like an eternity that he was stuck there before heading back out to finish 15th.

De Silvestro really did made a mark on her return to Indycar racing, after that earlier accident she went into the back of James Jakes here...

The best of the action though was right at the front, an intense battle. Power led late in the race from team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya but the former F1 driver caught him and the pair even touched on this corner with just a handful of laps to go.

Montoya took the chequered flag, personal delight for him, a decent days work too for Team Penske, who claimed a 1-2. You sense this could be the start of a classic duel for the Championship between these two.
