Verdasco stuns Nadal in Miami

Tuesday, March 31 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Number two seed Rafael Nadal is out of the Miami Open after losing 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 to Fernando Verdasco.

    Script:

Number two seed Rafael Nadal faced fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the third round of the Miami Open. So often in the past this would have been straightforward but this is just one example of how well the 29th seed played here as he went on to take the first set 6-4.

Nadal responded, breaking Verdasco twice to win the second set 6-2 in just 45 minutes.

But in his own words the former world number one says he is playing with too many nerves at the moment as he continues his return from injury and Verdasco took advantage.

    He won the decider 6-3.

His reward for beating Nadal is a meeting in the fourth round against Juan Monaco, the Argentine beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-5, 6-4.

Eighth seed Tomas Berdych is also through after this win against Bernard Tomic. The Australian won the first set on a tie-break. Berdych then survived four match points to win the next in the same way. The third set was not so tight, the Czech won it 6-1.

He'll be unlikely to go through again though if he has to defend four match points against Andy Murray in the next round.
