Favourable playing conditions greeted the golfers on day two of the Trophee Hassan II in Agadir in Morocco.
Pablo Larrazabal, a three time winner on the European Tour seen here at the ninth, was among the morning starters.
He finished his round strongly with two straight birdies on the last two holes for a three-under-par round of 69, leaving poised at five-under overall at the midway stage.
Level with him at that mark is George Coetzee of South Africa.
After an opening round of 67, four bogeys and a double bogey cost him significantly on day 2.
But four birdies in five holes round the turn ensured that he remains competitive as he carded a level par round of 72 to remain at five-under overall.
Level with both of them is England's Chris Wood.
His round included two birdies, and a superb eagle at the 17th, which made amends for other errors as he also carded 72 on the day.
One shot further ahead is Rafa Cabrera-Bello.
The Spaniard produced a second successive round of 69, three-under-par, to move to six-under-par overall.
Level with him at that mark is Australian Richard Green.
His consistent round included consecutive birdies at the 11th and 12th as he reached the club house in 70, two-under-par.
