It was the first match for Japan's new head coach, Vahid Halihodzic, and was also the first time the two nations had played one another.

The game remained scoreless through the 45 minutes.

In the 65th minute, AC Milan's,Keisuke Honda provided the corner for Maya Yoshida, yet the referee had blown for an earlier foul.

12 minutes, Honda's assist would count. Floating a perfect ball to the far post for Shinki Okazaki to put Japan one ahead.

Honda got on the scoresheet himself in the 83rd minute after Shinji Kagawa's cross was deflected into his path.

The game finished 2-0. With Japan's next friendly on Tuesday against Uzbekistan in Tokyo.
