    Script:

Round one Miami Open action continued with Mikhail Kukuskin of Kazakhstan beating Steve Johnson 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Kukushkin's victory made Johnson the first American to exit this year's competition.

Elsewhere, Andreas Haider-Maurer was also dumped out at the first hurdle thanks to a surprising comeback by Croatia's Borna Coric.

The Austrian won a comfortable first set 6-1 before Coric won the second 6-3 and forced the third into a tie-break, which he eventually won 7-6.

Juan Martin del Potro's return from injury proved to be an unhappy one, with Canada's Vasek Pospisil taking full advantage of the former world number four's rustiness to carve out a 6-4, 7-6 win.

The win marks Pospisil's first in Miami.

Elsewhere Alexandr Dolgopolov advanced to the second round of the Miami Open following a straight-sets win over Ricardas Berankis.

The 26-year-old Ukrainian beat his Lithuanian counterpart 6-4, 6-1.

Jurgen Melzer advanced in straight sets in his clash with Ryan Harrison.

Melzer needed a tiebreak to seal the first set before taking the second for a 7-6, 6-3 victory.
