Airbnb selected as 'official alternative accommodation' for Rio 2016 Olympics.

SOUNDBITE: (English), Joe Gebbia, airbnb co-founder:

"We are ready for the expected 380,000 spectators who are coming to Rio for the Olympic Games. We are ready to show them what traditional, authentic Brazilian hospitality looks like."

SOUNDBITE: (English), Sidney Levy, Rio 2016 Organising Committee CEO:

"Rio de Janeiro didn't have hotels at that time so we started that with faith, basically. Faith that we were going to solve the problem some way or the another. The mayor created some new rules so the hotel capacity of Rio is now double what it was before."

SOUNDBITE: (English), Sidney Levy, Rio 2016 Organising Committee CEO:

"We are now offering 40,000 rooms in Rio de Janeiro due to new hotels that are being built and our commitment to the IOC is around that - 40,000 - so we are fulfilling our agreement with the IOC. What we hope to bring with airbnb is everybody else - because 40,000 rooms is the people that are partner services, the IOC, the families, the NOC's everywhere and the press, the broadcasters. This is the fulfillment that we need to do anyway. But we need to receive everybody from all around the world. So that's when they come in."
