Intro:
In recognition of the 75 year-old's achievements on and off the golf course, Jack Nicklaus was on Tuesday (24th March) presented with the Congressional Gold Medal in Washington, D.C.
Script:
SOUNDBITE: (English) Jim Nance, CBS Sportscaster:
"His philanthropic victories are more spectacular in my book than his golf conquests. It's a long list, just to touch on a few, helping men and women of our military, raising money for cancer, for spinal cord research, national co-chair and trustee of the First Tee. These are just a few of Jack's birdies and eagles on his scorecard of life."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Jack Nicklaus II:
"I believe he has truly transcended the game of golf, and perhaps sports in general. He is most admired by his fellow competitors and sports fans worldwide by the way he has carried himself. He simply worked hard, and let others shout his accolades. He has always taken responsibilities for his actions and his results."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Representative John Boehner, House Speaker:
"So, in the immortal words of a CBS golf announcer Verne Lundquist, "Yes, sir, the Congressional Gold Medal goes to the gentleman from Ohio, the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Jack Nicklaus, Congressional Gold Medal Recipient:
"I'm honestly and completely humbled to be here today, and I guess you'd say I'm floored to be standing here. And when you look at the past recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal it's like chapters from a history book. George Washington, Ulysses S. Grant, Jonas Salk, General Douglas McArthur, Sir Winston Churchill, Walt Disney, and so many more."
