Roger Federer breezed into the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open but three-time champion Rafael Nadal was beaten by Milos Raonic in a tight three-setter.

    Script:

Second seed Roger Federer took on Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals at Indian Wells.

Keeping alive his hopes of winning an unprecedented fifth title in the desert, Federer - who is yet to drop a set at the tournament - broke his opponent in the seventh game before going on to hold serve.

Federer then held from love-thirty down to seal the opening set.

Building on his momentum, the Swiss raced to a 5-0 lead in the second, before serving out for the victory in 69 minutes.

The 6-4 6-0 win sees Fedrerer reach his ninth BNP Paribas Open semi-final.

He plays the winner of Milos Raonic, against Rafael Nadal.

Nadal seemed on course for victory after taking the first set 6-4.

The second set went to a tie-break.

The Spaniard committed costly errors on two of his match-winning opportunities, while Raonic smashed a winner on the other.

The Canadian finally converted on his fifth set point to send the match into a decider.

Both players held firm all the way to five-games all, with Raonic earning the only break of the set in the 11th game before serving out the final game to win.

Raonic plays Roger Federer in one semi-final.

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic takes on fourth-seeded Andy Murray in the other.
