Guptill: 'I don't know what happened'

Sunday, March 22 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Martin Guptill said he was incredibly proud after his unbeaten 237 helped New Zealand beat the West Indies in the World Cup quarter-finals in Wellington

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Martin Guptill, New Zealand batsman (on his innings):

"I'm still not really sure what happened today, to be honest. It hasn't really sunk in yet but obviously incredibly proud of what happened today and hopefully, moving forward, we can win another game and then another one after that. So just pretty proud to score that many runs and to get the win as well."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Martin Guptill, New Zealand batsman (on crowd chanting his name):

"Yeah, it's pretty cool. I've never had anything like that before and for it to be here in New Zealand is even better, and to be in a quarterfinal is pretty special as well."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Martin Guptill, New Zealand batsman (on whether he felt he was in for such a special innings)

"Not really. I just sort of, from the start I just wanted to play each ball as it came and then once it got down to the last 10 overs it was just to have a bit of fun and try and hit a few boundaries. There were a couple of good partnerships in those last 10 overs that got us up to nearly 400."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Trent Boult, New Zealand bowler (on Daniel Vettori's catch to dismiss Marlon Samuels):

"Yeah, I couldn't believe it actually - for him to leap up a couple of metres up in the air there and stick out his paw. I actually enjoyed the celebration afterwards with just a little strut so... the best sight was seeing everyone just sprint towards him and grab him so something very cool."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Trent Boult, New Zealand bowler (on West Indies and now South Africa in the semi-finals):

"I guess they've had their troubles but we knew they would be very competitive. They've literally got 11 match winners in their team so...it was really set up from Guppy (Guptill) first of all. Now we can focus on the South Africans and they're going to be as equal a challenge if not better. So, like I said, we will scout them and prepare for that game as we have any other one, and set the game plan down and just give it our best come Tuesday."
