  • Intro:

Simona Halep reached the last four of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells despite losing the first set against Suarez Navarro. Serena Williams also makes it through to the semis with a straight sets win over Timea Bacsinszky

    Script:

Simona Halep took on against Carla Suarez Navarro for a place in the last four of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

Suarez Navarro could do no wrong in the opening stages of the match, winning the first four games in a row to go up 4-0, and even though Halep clawed her way back to four-all, and then five-all, Suarez Navarro regrouped just in time, closing out the 51-minute opening set with a big forehand winner, 7-5.

That's where she was stopped in her tracks, though. In quite incredible fashion.

The 12th seed watched on as Halep stormed through the next two sets in just 63 minutes to prevail, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.

Halep finished the match off in style, blasting a big ace - her 28th winner of the match.

World number one and top seed Serena Williams also advanced to the semi-finals with a win over Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky.

The victory extended the American's winning streak to 15 matches in her return to the desert after ending a 14-year boycott of the tournament.

Bacsinszky had her own 15-match winning streak ended, although her 21-3 record leads the WTA Tour this year.

Williams took the straight sets victory 7-5, 6-3.
