  • Intro:

World champion Sebastien Ogier won the Rally of Mexico on Sunday (8th March), his third successive victory of the season.

    Script:

Sebastien Ogier was a lucky winner last time out in Sweden following Anders Mikkelsen's meltdown, but here in Mexico he looked to be relying on just his own performance.

Again Ogier had Mikkelsen as his closest rival, yet the Frenchman led the Norwegian throughout the final day and won by a clear 5 seconds.

The Volkswagen driver's margin of victory was over 1 minute and 18 seconds.

Behind him , the nearest challenger was Mads Ostberg of Citroen. The Norwegian edging his fellow countryman Mikkelsen by 6.3 seconds.

Ostberg effectively made sure of second place after winning a marathon opening stage on Sunday, while Mikkelsen spun after 45 kilometres.

Mikkelsen would take third as British driver Elfyn Evans finished off the podium in fourth.

Ogier and his co-driver, Julien Ingrassia, took the lead after the second stage on Thursday (5th March) and were never in trouble from there.

Next up for Ogier and his fellow rally drivers in the World Championship in Argentina at the end of April.
