  • Intro:

World number one Novak Djokovic gives Serbia a 1-0 lead in the opening rubber of their Davis Cup World Group tie with Croatia after beating Mate Delić 6-3 6-2 6-4.

    Script:

Novak Djokovic gave Serbia a 1-0 lead over Croatia by beating Mate Delic 6-3 6-2 6-4 in the first round of the Davis Cup.

The top-ranked Serb converted early break points in each set on an indoor hard court.

Djokovic broke serve in the second game and that was enough for him to take the opening set 6-3, which he closed out with a second serve ace.

Djokovic broke serve again at the start of the second set and opened up a 5-2 lead before taking a two-set advantage.

It was only in the third set that Delic showed any real resistance, but Djokovic hardly broke sweat to record victory in over an hour and 29 minutes.

Croatian teen Borna Coric will play Viktor Troicki in the day's second singles rubber.
