As always, the wildlife was out in force as round 2 of the African Open got underway at the East London Golf Club in South Africa on Friday.

Kevin Phelan held a share of the lead overnight but only managed to go round in a level par 72 leaving him tied for 14th at the end of the day.

Germany's Maximilian Kieffer made an early case for round of the day with a stunning nine-under 63.

He eagled the first and enjoyed a run of four birdies in five holes on the back nine to make up for a poor first day, which saw him limp in with a 74.

While, Jaco van Zyl leads the local charge, also shooting six-under for the day to go eight under for the tournament and sit third in the leaderboard.

Eduardo de la Riva was in the clubhouse in second spot, after carding a 66 that featured eight birdies and two bogeys.

But the day belonged to Englishman Matt Ford once again.

He continued his excellent form from day one as he produced a round of 66, which sees him sitting a shot clear of the Spaniard after two round.
