But El Welily worked her opponent all around the court and took advantage as David began to tire. The second set went to the number two seed 12-10, before she then pulled ahead by grabbing the third 11-7.

The title went to the Egyptian as David made an error on her return on championship point - El Welily the winner by a scoreline of 14-16, 12-10, 11-7, 11-7.

In the men's final, world number one Mohamed Elshorbagy was aiming to claim his fourth successive world series title.

But the Egyptian's bid was thwarted by a fine performance from England's Nick Matthew.

The 34-year-old Matthew got the better of a marathon opening game, taking it 11-7.

With Elshorbagy's energy sapped, Matthew took charge of the encounter, cruising to the second game 11-2 before securing the championship by prevailing 11-7 in the third.

Three-time world champion Matthew made only two errors against the 24-year-old Egyptian, as he sealed his 32nd career title, becoming the oldest winner of a PSA World Series event.
