Koeman wants a 'ruthless' Southampton

  • Intro:

Ronald Koeman on Monday (2nd March) called on his team to be "more ruthless in the box", but defended misfiring striker Graziano Pelle and said, "It's a team question, it's not an individual question of Pelle or other strikers, it's the whole team" - they face Crystal Palace in the English Premier League on Tuesday (3rd March) and Koeman warned, "They are a very dangerous team at the moment and we need to be good tomorrow (Tuesday) to have a good result."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ronald Koeman, Southampton manager (Q: Are we starting to see signs of what people expected?):

"We had a difficult period in the beginning of December, I think the reaction of the players was fantastic after that and I expect the same reaction in the last 11 games."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ronald Koeman, Southampton manager (Q: A lot has been made of Graziano Pelle's form, can you put your finger on why you're not scoring goals?):

"If strikers are a little bit more struggling in scoring goals it's a big part of our problem in the last few games. It's close, it's close to be like in the beginning of the season, but still we are creating chances, but maybe we need (to be) a little bit more ruthless in the box, more confident in the box, but it's a team question, it's not an individual question of Pelle or other strikers, it's the whole team."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ronald Koeman, Southampton manager (Q: You've faced Crystal Palace twice already this season, how difficult will they be?):

"We know what we can expect of them. I think they have a great run in the away games in the last few weeks and they had a great win against West Ham, they scored three times from set pieces. They are strong, they have good organisation and they are dangerous in counter-attack. And we had a poor 45 minutes in the (English) FA Cup against them, our defending was poor in the first 45 minutes, but they deserved the goals, they had still more chances to score more goals. They are a very dangerous team at the moment and we need to be good tomorrow to have a good result."
