Lancaster: 'Ill discipline cost England'

Monday, March 02 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Reaction after Stuart Lancaster's England lose 19-9 to Joe Schmidt's Ireland in the Six Nations.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Stuart Lancaster, England head coach (On games turning points)

"I think some of the key points, discipline in the first half, I think it was an 8-4 penalty count at half-time, and with Ireland playing a very effective kicking and territory-based game, if you are ill disciplined obviously they can build a score to 9-3 at half-time. So I felt we were still in the game at that point, without really having got our game going, but obviously a couple of key moments in the second half and none more so than the try."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Stuart Lancaster, England head coach (Q: Can you still win this tournament?)

"Absolutely. In every year there are very few Grand Slam teams, in fact in the majority of years you end up with a team winning the Championship who've lost one game along the way. Clearly for us we've got two games at home, which is critical we get as much as we can out of those and Ireland have got two games away. And Wales are obviously still in the hunt now, having won at the weekend. That (Wales v Ireland) will be a big game, but for us obviously we can't control that, what we can control is the Scotland performance."
