'Man City can still win title'

Monday, March 02 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Reaction after Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool beat Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City 2-1 in the Premier League.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Manuel Pellegrini, Manchester City manager (Q: Is that the title defence over?)

"No. Not in the spirit, I think that we are never, we never give up about the title. We must try to improve our play first and after that, try to win our next game."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Manuel Pellegrini, Manchester City manager (Q: What were the problems today?)

"... I think that we miss also three clear chances, two of Sergio (Aguero), one post, one header, one shot of David (Silva) at the end. I think mostly it was a close game, Liverpool also played very well and finally they deserved to win."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool manager (Q: After playing in the Europa League in Turkey on Thursday, how impressive was that?)

"You've got to take your hat off to them because how they performed was at a real, real top level. As I said I've got nothing but admiration for them because their focus was good in the game, they worked the system very well and I thought as the game wore on we created more chances. We restricted Manchester City to one shot on target, so to do that, as I said, the whole team has to be collectively working well."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool manager (Q: On Philippe Coutinho)

"His performances, in particular since he signed his contract, he's started to score goals and he's a joy to watch. He's a kid with so much ahead of him in the game, you know, 22 years of age. People forget he came into us at 19, still developing and adapting to a new country, but sensational footballer and now he's starting to add the goals to mirror that quality and to beat Joe Hart, who I rate highly, at six foot five, top class goalkeeper, to beat him from that angle, with that power, as I said phenomenal strike, as was Jordan's (Henderson)."
