Besiktas knocked Liverpool out of the Europa League in a penalty shoot-out on Thursday night after the round of 32 tie finished 1-1 on aggregate, with the Turkish side having won the second leg 1-0.

"I thought that.... we created opportunities in the first half, to make it really difficult for them. I thought over the course of the game we defended very, very well, limited them to few chances, but the one.... I suppose mistake that we made we got punished for it. We were just too deep, in the moment where they scored, so.... But my overriding feeling, I'm obviously proud of the team. A lot of young players getting great experience this evening, and a fantastic atmosphere. The Besiktas supporters were outstanding, as were the Liverpool supporters. To come so far and to give us that support, we really appreciate that. But of course, we are disappointed having put so much into the game."

"I think the game, up until they scored the goal, we were quite comfortable in the game. Of course we were away from the home and.... the objective is, for us is to keep a clean sheet. As you say, we created chances in the first half, and in the second half of the game we were comfortable. But of course we were missing a lot of our creativity this evening, but it's no excuse. We had a lot of young players getting great experience, we had other players that are creative players, we played with two strikers.... so it was an attacking, attacking line-up. And then once, I think once Besiktas get the goal then we start to have more of the ball again.... but didn't create so much. So, but I didn't think Besiktas created so much either. So, it was always a tight game, that we just failed to, as I said, finish the opportunities we had in the first half."
