IOC inspectors have begun a three-day visit to Rio de Janeiro to check on preparations for the Olympics, which are now just 18 months away.
The IOC's coordination commission will visit venues and meet with local organizers as Rio races to be ready on time for South America's first games.
Rio 2016's Coordination Commission Chairwoman Nawal El Moutawakel said during a Coordination Commission meeting, that test events will be held this summer:

"The Games will be very tangible, with the first cluster of test events this summer. This will be Rio 2016 first opportunity to showcase the level of readiness and the level of preparation. And to send a signal to the entire world that you are ready to welcome everyone."
Later in the day IOC president Thomas Bach declared himself 'very much satisfied' with the work being done towards the next Olympics.

"(Q: Mr. President, are you satisfied with the progress?) Yes, very much so. Sorry, we have to go to Brasilia. (Q: What are you going to talk with President?) This I will tell her first! (laughter)"
The president is scheduled to meet with Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff in Brasilia later in the day.
