    Andy Murray and Tomas Berdych advanced to the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Tuesday following straight-set wins over Gilles Muller and Jeremy Chardy, respectively.

    Britain's Andy Murray began his Dubai Championships campaign with a 6-4 7-5 win over Luxembourg's Gilles Muller.

    The 27-year-old came through in one hour and 45 minutes and will play Joao Sousa in round two, three weeks after beating the Portuguese at the Australian Open. In the final game of the first set, Murray served three aces, three double faults, and saved a break point before winning the 16-point game.

    Serving for the match at 5-4 in the second, Murray fell behind 15-40, and watched Muller break his serve with a backhand crosscourt net cord shot.

    Murray, then won the next two games for the match, breaking serve when Muller double-faulted at 30-40 in the 11th game.

    Meanwhile, fourth-seed Tomas Berdych, a finalist in Dubai in the last two years, opened his account by beating Jeremy Chardy of France 7-6 (2), 6-4.

    The win puts Berdych one victory away from claiming 500 match wins in his career.
