Mayweather and Pacquiao finally agree to fight

  • Intro:

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will meet Manny Pacquiao on 2nd May in a welterweight showdown that will be boxing's richest fight ever. Mayweather himself announced the bout on Friday (20 February) after months of negotiations, posting a picture of the signed contract online.

    Script:

Boxing has certainly changed over the years, in 1981 it took a 30 minute meeting in an airport coffee shop to organise the first fight between Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns.

Now, finally, after years of negotiations over issues that fans are hardly interested in, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will finally step into the ring together to face-off.

The match-up could prove to be the sport's last true super-fight and fittingly, it will take place where all the greatest fights of the past 20 years have been, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The fight has been in the making for over five years, and while many have argued neither boxer is at their prime, it is sure to produce quite the spetacle regardless.

Mayweather announced that the encounter will take place on May 2nd with both HBO and Showtime set to broadcast it on pay-per-view.

The showdown is a lock to be the richest in boxing history and will finally settle the issue that has been debated for years: Who is the No. 1 fighter in boxing and who is the king of this era?

Figures are not guaranteed, but Mayweather is expected to earn US$120 million or more, while Pacquiao's take will likely be around US$80 million.
