  • Intro:

South Africa received a boost in the lead up to its ICC Cricket World Cup match with India at the MCG as fast bowler Dale Steyn returned to training on Thursday following a bout of sinusitis.

SOUNDBITE (English) Russell Domingo, South Africa coach: (On Dale Steyn's fitness following an illness)

"He'll have a run out today. He's had a little bit of sinusitis, but I don't think it'll be anything to be too concerned about. The rooms in Christchurch were especially cold with a lot of air coming in. I'm sure you guys had some sniffs and stuff. So, nothing to be too concerned about."

SOUNDBITE (English) Russell Domingo, South Africa coach: (On bringing in former Australian international Mike Hussey as a batting coach for the tournament)

"He's a big plus for us. He's a guy who has one a World Cup, he's been in pressure situations in Australia. He's played under these conditions for a long period of time and I think his presence alone will serve as a big form of motivation for our players. He's known as a very thoughtful cricketer, he plans meticulously about his own personal game. Hopefully some of the things he has learnt playing in competitions like this he can pass on to our players."

SOUNDBITE (English) Russell Domingo, South Africa coach: (On why he thinks India struggled during their tour of Australia, but then dominated Pakistan in their World Cup opener)

"I did hear one of them saying after the match the eight days they had off was very important for them to freshen up mentally. That could have been a part of it. We know they've got some of the best players in the world in their side. They've had a touch tour of Australia, but it's not the tour of Australia that is the top of their list at the moment. The World Cup's their main priority now and we know that they'll be fresh and ready to go come Sunday and we're going to have to be on the top of our game."

SOUNDBITE (English) Russell Domingo, South Africa coach: (On facing in form Indian batsman Virat Kohli)

"We know that Virat Kohli has been an outstanding player for India over the last couple of years and his record is phenomenal. He's a kingpin in the batting line-up, but we were just talking at dinner last night about guys like Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, they've got a seriously good batting line-up. I don't think it's South African style to target one individual player, that's not the way we go about our stuff. It's very much respecting the whole unit as a collective unit, because we know that they've got match winners right through the batting line-up."
