Wednesday, February 18 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Kenyan runner Hyvon Ngetich crawled across the finish line to place third in the Austin Marathon in Austin, Texas, USA on Sunday (15th February).

    Script:

Sport is all about hard work and determination.

And there may be few better examples of that than Kenyan marathon runner Hyvon Ngetich

Leading the women's field at the Austin Marathon in Texas: her body began to break down.

With two-tenths-of-a-mile to go, the 29-year-old collapsed.

Rather than quit the race, Ngetich crawled on 'all fours' toward the finish line.

Race volunteers were there with a wheelchair, which she refused to use.

On her hands and knees, she had to pause to gather up her energy to continue her determined crawl to the finish and exaplined, that she had to keep going:

    SOUNDBITE (English): Hyvon Ngetich:

"Oh God, thank you. I cross that place, you know."

    SOUNDBITE (English): Hyvon Ngetich:

"Running always, you got to keep going, going. You could die running, you know."

She eventually reached the finish line to finish in third place.
