16th-seeded Peng Shuai of China took on Russia's Elena Vesnina at the Dubai Tennis Championships.

Peng made light work of her opponent as she took the first set 7-5, before going on to take the the second 6-1 for a resounding victory

Playing on her fourth continent in the last four weeks, Karolina Pliskova advanced to the second round after a comfortable win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

The 17th-seeded Pliskova didn't take long to win the first set 6-2.

She then continued her good form into the second set, closing it out 6-4

Britain's Heather Watson took on Kateryna Kozlova of the Ukraine but she struggled with injury.

Before going on to lose 6-4, 7-5.
