Andreas Mikkelsen has regained his position in the lead of the Rally Sweden after the opening stage of the final leg on Sunday.

With less than ten seconds covering the top three, the tournament was too close to call. Belgian Thierry Neuville experienced issues with his intercom in his Hyundai which caused him to crash into a snowbank.

Mads Ostberg also saw his downfall in a crash. The Norwegian went down to tenth place after losing more than 5 minutes due to his Citroen being stuck in deep snow, apparently caused by a faulty handbrake.

Sebastien Ogier claimed the opening stage win, after persevering through the snow and narrowly edging out Neuville in the penultimate stage.

Despite this, the Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen retook the lead after moving just 3.8 seconds ahead in his Volkswagen Polo. He is hoping to claim his first ever World Rally Championship title this year.
