Afghanistan trained in Canberra on Sunday ahead of their first ever Cricket World Cup match against Bangladesh.

This is the country's first appearance at the One Day International version of the tournament, having competed in the last 3 T20 World Cups.

But despite being ranked 12th in the world, this may be Afghanistan's last appearance in the World Cup, due to the ICC's recent change in guidelines that will see the number of competing teams reduced from 14 to 10.

SOUNDBITE (English) Andy Moles, Afghanistan coach: (On Afghanistan's hopes for their first World Cup)

"I wouldn't be happy if we lost every game, but if we competed in every single game and our players learn so we get better for the future than that's what it's all about. But we do have an expectancy to do well in this competition. We're not here to just fulfill fixtures, we're here to play in the tournament proper."

SOUNDBITE (English) Andy Moles, Afghanistan coach: (On the ICC's decision to cut the amount of nations in the next World Cup from 14 to 10)

"As an associate country we'd like to get as many countries playing the game. Every other world sport is growing and cricket seems to get smaller in the world stage when they play their World Cups. But that's a decision for the ICC, I'm just worried about what we're doing at the moment and after the World Cup we'll be looking to get as many One Day points as we can when we play ODI fixtures to hopefully get towards that number eight spot."

They will face 9th ranked Bangladesh on Wednesday.
