Bailey: Previous England wins count for nothing

Saturday, February 14 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Australia captain George Bailey believes his team's recent domination of England in one-day internationals will count for nothing when the two sides meet on Saturday for their Cricket World Cup opener.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) George Bailey, Australia vice captain (on whether Australia consistent wins over England in the recent times will count) "I'd love to say it would count for something, but honestly don't think it does. I think England has made some positive changes to the way they play, to their structure and i personally think they are very dangerous, they don't rely too heavily on one or two players, which is a pretty good model, so unfortunately we all start on zero tomorrow."

SOUNDBITE (English) George Bailey, Australia vice captain (on whether the team feels the pressure of expectations)
"Our expectations are always to win regardless, so if the outsiders or the general public, the media feel like we are favourites then, that's fine. It doesn't affect the game at all, the way that will be played, so the Australian cricket team, the one day team, expects to win one day tournaments and this tournament is no different."

SOUNDBITE (English) George Bailey, Australia vice captain (on the talk about this being a big game)
"Yeah, mainly excitement, i certainly feel that we have been ready cricket-wise, so i think the anticipation and excitement and obviously a lot of talk about a lot of big crowd, big tournament, and a big clash to kick it off. So all things said, i think the boys are just very excited about it."
