Tomas Berdych and Gael Monfils recorded straight sets wins in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on Tuesday to make it into the second round of the World Tennis Tournament.

    Script:

Defending champion Tomas Berdych faced Tobias Kamke of Germany in the first round of the World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.

Berdych raced through the opening set with the loss of just one game.

The third-seeded Czech was made to work harder in the second set.

A neatly steered backhand put Berdych 4-0 up.

Although Kamke did make a comeback in the second set, the 2014 title winner eventually triumphed 6-1, 7-5.

He will play either home player Robin Haase or Italy's Andreas Seppi in round two.

An all-French first-round encounter saw Gael Monfils take on Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

Monfils had the upper hand and the early signs looked good for him as he took a 3-0 lead in the first set before going on to claim it 6-3.

It wasn't long before the match was nearly over - Monfils closed in on a 5-2 second set lead with this volley.

Before going on to win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to set up a meeting against Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut, the number seven seed.
