We've had something of a shock already in the World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.

Number six seed Ernests Gulbis lost in straight sets against unseeded Austrian Dominic Thiem.

The pair share the same coach and Gunther Bresnik would have been most pleased with his world number 47 here.

He took the first set 6-4 and wrapped up the match with a convincing 6-2 in the next.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Dominic Thiem:

"Think I returned very well. That's what I think I really improved from last year and it was very important and all in all I think it was a very good performance today."

Argentina's Roberto Bautista Agut is also through, he saw off Alexander Zevrev 6-4 6-1.

The afternoon session was all about straight set wins as Simone Bolelli beat Lukas Rosol 6-3 6-1 to seal his place in the second round.
