Mark Cavendish won a final-stage sprint to capture the Tour of Dubai title.

The Isle of Man rider had slipped four seconds adrift of Germany's John Degenkolb on Friday.

But the 29-year-old claimed 10 bonus seconds in his second stage victory of the four-day event to finish six seconds clear of the German in the final standings.

The Etixx-QuickStep rider clocked a time of two hours, 37 minutes and 15 seconds in Saturday's 123-km stage.

Degenkolb could only cross the line in ninth and the Manxman believes his sprint with around 250m remaining was key to victory:

SOUNDBITE: Mark Cavendish (English) 2015 Dubai Tour champion:

"There was a headwind so it was always likely that people would come from behind and then Marco (Canolo) went and I was just waiting, and you can just feel, and I was looking and there was a gap and I thought if i wait until 250-200 like i want to people will come at me with speed so i went early and I knew that would make it hard for them to catch me."

Cavendish was awarded an MBE for services to british cycling three years ago.
