Defending champion Lee Westwood saw his three-shot lead at the Maybank Malaysian Open wiped out in the penultimate round.

The Briton carded a 14-under 69 to slip to third place but at two strokes off the pace the 41-year-old remains in touch for a final day title bid.

Joining Westwood at that mark is compatriot Paul Waring, who sank this eagle at the 14th to keep his hopes of a first European Tour victory alive.

Before the start of play Alejandro Canizares was joint-first with Westwood but the shot of the day by the Spaniard at the 16th was only enough for second place at 15-under.

Austrian Bernd Wiesberger leapfrogged Ca?izares and Westwood into first place after holing 10 birdies in a nine-under par 63 to reach 17-under.

The 29-year-old rose from third spot after the second round at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club to close in on his first European Tour title in three years.
