Lee Sharpe has faith in the current Manchester United team, backing Louis Van Gaal to challenge the Premiership title next season.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Lee Sharpe, Ex-Manchester United, "Well, I think the team have played pretty average, to be honest, but to be in fourth position and play average is no mean feat. And I think he is a positive manager, I think he's quite strong character, which I think the club needs, and like I said, once the players get used to the formation and they played regularly and if he buys a few players in the summer, I think next year they could certainly be a challenger for the title."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Lee Sharpe, Ex-Manchester United, "I don't think the manager would be overly concerned if he, if he'd get someone in or not. I think he's got a pretty strong squad when everyone's fit. I think he will look to make additions, I think he will let a few people go in the summer, I think he will make a few additions in the summer, but as far as the January window, it's a difficult time to buy because people hold you to ransom, they put the price up a little bit, so I think I wouldn't be surprised if no one comes in, but then again, I also wouldn't be surprised if one or two do come in. Still think they could do with a defender, I think some of the centre backs are probably a little bit weak, in, in the formation that he wants to play. So maybe a defender or a holding midfielder but I wouldn't be surprised if no one comes in to be honest."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Lee Sharpe, Ex-Manchester United, "I think to qualify for Europe. I think that was the goal he set out at the start of the season, I think he knows it's a transformation period still, and to challenge for the league is probably a little bit early. But I think if they can get into Europe, it then encourages other players to come and sign for the club in the summer, and I think in the summer he will go out and spend big and buy a couple of big players and really have a go next year."
