Wiesberger leads Dubai Desert Classic

    Austrian Bernd Wiesberger leads by one shot after shooting an eight-under-par 64 in the opening round of the Dubai Desert Classic on Thursday.

    Script:

    The Omega Dubai Desert Classic got underway in perfect scoring conditions on Thursday with the sun shining and the course immaculate.

    Martin Kaymer, back on form, played some lovely golf. His second into the fifth here on his way to a round of 67. 5-under par.

    World number one Rory McIlroy also made an excellent start as he attempted to turn his recent good form into victory at the Emirates Golf Club, he carded a 6-under 66 and is two shots off the pace.

    In his first tournament appearance of the year, Lee Westwood was delighted with his opening round, a bogey free, 7-under, 65 to sit just one shot back.

    Nicolas Colsaerts also shot 65. This was his birdie at the 7th. He dropped just a single shot on his final hole.

    South Africa Open winner Andy Sullivan is also on 65. An eagle at the 18th moving him to 7-under.

    Austria's Bernd Wiesberger continued his excellent recent form to take the first round lead.

    Wiesberger, who was sixth in Abu Dhabi and third in Qatar after being piped by playing partner Branden Grace in the final round, carded eight birdies in a flawless round of 64.
