SOUNDBITE: (English) Steven Smith, Australia stand-in Test captain (asked about winning the Allan Border Award):

"Yeah, it was obviously a good night. To clean up the awards as a nice way to end another season. It's been a pretty big roller coaster ride for me in the last year or so and I've just really enjoyed my cricket so I hope the good stuff continues for me."

Question: "Do you feel confidence moving forward having won the award last night?"

Smith: "I'm not sure. I just feel really good at the moment about my game. Every time I walk out to the middle I'm feeling good. I just want that to continue for me for as long as I can. There's obviously a big World Cup coming up and I want to be a big part of our success so I just hope it continues for me."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Steven Smith, Australia stand-in Test captain (asked about his role as stand-in captain with Australia):

"It's obviously been a pretty amazing summer for me and I've enjoyed every moment of it and I enjoyed the experience of captaincy in Michael's (Clarke) absence and it was just a great experience for me. I'm really happy where everything is at."

Question: "Is there a turning point when you look back at the last 12 months?"

Smith: "I can't really pinpoint one moment to be honest. I'd probably have to say the innings at Centurion against South Africa getting a hundred there gave me the confidence to know I could compete against the best bowlers in the world. I'm just really happy I was able to improve over the last year or so."

Question: "What would cap it off?"

Smith: "Winning the World Cup, I think. It's obviously going to be a massive tournament in our own back yard and I'm sure the fans are going to be right behind us. I just can't wait to get started."
