2011 Masters 'most important day of my career' - McIlroy

  • Intro:

Rory McIlroy spoke on Wednesday ahead of the Dubai Desert Classic, which takes place between Thursday and Sunday.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rory McIlroy, world number one:
"You know, I've got four days to, you know, to try and get back on the victory trail. And, you know, it feels like a long time since my last win, so it'd be nice to get another one pretty soon and start the year off and head to the States with a victory under my belt."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rory McIlroy, world number one:
"Of course, this is, you know, they've started in the States, and obviously this week over there is a big week, Tiger (Woods) back and Phil's (Mickelson) playing, and the Super Bowl in Phoenix, as well, obviously it's going to be a huge week over there and people are excited for that. And we've got a great field over here for this week, Henrik (Stenson) and Martin (Kaymer) and G-Mac (Graeme McDowell) and all the other guys that are playing, so it's...you know, it's feels like the golf season has well and truly begun and, you know, it won't be long until the Masters rolls around."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rory McIlroy, world number one (on his memories of blowing the lead at the 2011 Masters tournament in light of Martin Kaymer capitulating similarly at the Abu Dhabi Championship earlier in January):
"It was the most important day of my career, yeah, bar none. It was the most important day. Because, if I hadn't had that happen to me, who knows where I would've been, you know. I learned so much from that day, you know, I learned what I shouldn't do when I'm in that situation again. So, you know, you learn way more from those days than you do from your victories. I obviously know how Martin is feeling about that and...you know, they're important lessons to learn and everyone needs to go through them at some point in their life, whether it's golf or whatever else. You know, everyone makes mistakes and that's where you learn and that's how you move on and become better at whatever you want to do."
