    Script:

It was winner takes all in Pool 1 of the European Rugby Champions Cup as Saracens travelled to Clermont Auvergne. The French side were in front in the eighth minute thanks to a Camille Lopez penalty. And they extended their lead just after the half hour mark, Nick Abendanon saw a gap and punished the Saracens defence.

A simple conversion followed and Clermont were 10 up.

Owen Farrell came off injured midway through the first half and so Charlie Hodgson picked up kicking duties for the English club, he narrowed the gap just before half time.

Just after the break the chances of a comeback increased further when Sebastien Vahaamahina was sin binned for punching Jacques Burger.

The home side kept Saracens out until the final minute of the lock's ten in the bin. Another Hodgson penalty meant there was just four points in it.

But just as Clermont's man was about to return, Saracens had a yellow card of their own. David Strettle with the late tackle.

It took less than two minutes for the 2013 Heineken Cup champions to take advantage. Vincent Debaty with the score. Lopez missed this conversion but his replacement Brock James kicked a late penalty to put the result beyond doubt. So Clermont will face Northampton in the quarter-finals, Saracens are also through and will face Racing Metro.
