Simona Halep advanced to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Yanina Wickmayer on Sunday

    Script:

Simona Halep sealed her place in the last eight of the Australian Open for a second successive year on Sunday with victory over Yanina Wickmayer.

The number three seed broke Wickmayer in her second service game before taking a 4-1 lead and then going on to win the set 6-4.

Breaks were traded in the early stages of the second set before Halep dominated the rest of the way, winning four games in succession to seal a 6-4, 6-2 victory.

Next up for Halep, who has yet to drop a set in this year's tournament, is a quarter-final meeting with number 10 seed Ekaterina Makarova.

SOUNDBITE (English) Simona Halep, third seed (on how confident she feels having not dropped a set while many other seeded players have struggled):

"Yeah, a lot of confidence I have now because I didn't lose a set. I had good matches here in first week, so I'm really happy that I'm in second week now like last year. Here I started to play my best tennis in Grand Slams. So means a lot for me. I really have more confidence now to play the quarter-finals."

SOUNDBITE (English) Simona Halep, third seed (on her next opponent Ekaterina Makarova):

"I know her. I play a few times against her. She serves pretty well; she's moving well; she's playing aggressive. I have my chance. I believe in my chance next round. So I have to make my game again to be aggressive and to serve well like today."
