Leinster advance to quarter-finals

    Leinster reached the quarter-finals of the European Rugby Champions Cup on Saturday (24th January), despite squandering a 14-point lead and drawing 20-all with hosts Wasps in a Pool 2 match.

    Script:

    First place in Pool 2 and a quarter-final berth were the prizes on offer when Wasps hosted Leinster in the European Champions Cup on Saturday.

    And the away side were handed an advantage seconds in when their opponents were reduced to 14 men.

    Leinster made the most of the extra man.

    Winger Fergus McFadden going over in the corner just a few minutes later.

    Wasps lost another man just before the half-hour mark.

    Prop Lorenzo Cittadini was sin-binned for killing the ball.

    Leinster went on to score their second try in the 38th minute.

    Referee Jerome Garces eventually awarding a try to Isaac Boss after a video review allowing the away side to go into the break 20-6 ahead.

    Wasps finally got their game back on track on the hour mark.

    England prop Matt Mullan barged his way over to make it 20-11.

    A second try followed in the 69th minute, when Hughes dived over a ruck on the Leinster tryline.

    Andy Goode converted both tries taking Wasps on level terms at 20-all.

    Leinster had a chance to reclaim the lead but Ian Madigan missed a penalty.

    Wasps then engineered one final opportunity to claim the win, but Goode's drop-kick went wide.

    It ended 20 points a piece.

    The result sees Leinster top Pool 2 and advance to the quarter-finals.
