Intro:
Genk moved back into the Belgian Pro League championship playoff places with a deserved win over relegation-threatened Mouscron-Peruwelz on Friday evening (23 January).
Script:
Alex McLeish's Genk went into their match with Mouscron on Friday knowing that a win would put them back into the championship playoff picture.
Neither team really found their rhythm in the opening stages, but it was the home side who almost opened the scoring first.
It wasn't long until Genk had their breakthrough though.
Siebe Schrijvers finishing off this fast counter attack to put them 1-0 ahead going into the interval.
Mouscron almost levelled just after the hour mark, but the header was straight at the Genk goalkeeper.
Schrijvers almost added a second for the hosts in the 67th minute, but again it was pushed over the bar.
On the resulting corner however, Genk doubled their advantage thanks to Benjamin De Ceulaer.
Steven Joseph-Monrose could have added a third for the home side, but the game finished 2-0 to Genk who now move up two places in the table to fifth.
