    Eugenie Bouchard overcame France's Caroline Garcia in straight sets in the Australian Open third round.

    The 20-year-old Canadian won 7-5 6-0 to safely progress to the next stage, where world number 42 Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania lies in wait.

    Fellow Romanian Simona Halep is also in the fourth round after the third seed defeated American Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-4 7-5.

    Next up for Halep is world number 80 Yanina Wickmayer, who stunned world number 14 Sara Errani.

    Belgian Wickmayer recovered from a set down to seal a 4-6 6-4 6-3 victory.

    The 25-year-old reached the round of 16 at a major for the first time since Wimbledon four years ago.

    Ekaterina Makarova continued to thrive Down Under. The Russian won 6-4 6-4 against Czech Karolina Pliskova to reach the fourth round for the fifth year in a row.

    World number 11 Makarova wrapped up the match in 68 minutes and now faces German Julia Görges.
