The second round of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship got underway in perfect sunny conditions on Friday.

Unfortunately for defending champions Pablo Larrazabal of Spain though, his golf didn't quite compare to the weather, missing the cut by just one shot.

Rory McIlroy faired better, this, his approach with a wedge at the 1st setting up the first of his 5 birdies.

Later at the par 3 15th, where Miguel Angel Jimenez made his hole-in-one yesterday, McIlroy made his first competitive hole-in-one as a professional.|

A perfect nine iron landed a yard short of the hole, kicked right and found the cup.

McIlroy's 6-under 66 puts him in third at 11 under and two shots behind Martin Kaymer, who followed up an opening-round 64 with a 67 to give himself a great chance of a fourth title at the National course - where he won in 2008, 2010 and 2011.

Kaymer himself played some truly brilliant shots in his blemish free 5 under, including this chip in for birdie from the bunker at the par 4 1st.

Belgium's Thomas Pieters is a shot behind Kaymer also carding a 5 under 67, as he continued his good form.

The 22 year old played immaculately from tee to green and matched the German's round with only a bogey on his final hole denying him a share of the lead.
