Kerber beats Muguruza at the Apia International Sydney

Thursday, January 15 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

After a late-night three-set thriller against Dari Gavrilova in the previous round at the Apia International, Germany's Angelique Kerber moved into the last four on Wednesday with another gutsy performance - this time against Garbine Muguruza, ranked 24 in the world.

    Script:

Back on court after finishing at three in the morning earlier in the day, Angelique Kerber could be forgiven for showing signs of fatigue.

And Spaniard Garbine Muguruza looked set to take full advantage, pushing Kerber to the limit and taking the opening set of their Apia International Sydney last eight match by six games to love.

But Kerber produced a strong response and never looked back after finally winning a game at the start of the second.

It was the German's turn to outrun her opponent, and she levelled the score by taking the second 6-1.

She powered through to the semi-finals for a third year in succession, taking the third set 6-4, she will face rising star Karolina Pliskova in the last four, while Petra Kvitova and Tsvetana Pironkova will contest the other semi-final.
