Milos Raonic forced Roger Federer to earn his 1,000th career victory in the final of the Brisbane International on Sunday.

The Swiss master began strongly, claiming the first set 6-4 after Raonic hit a forehand return long.

The Canadian hit back from a break down in the second to force a tie break, in which he dominated, winning seven successive points to take the set and level the match.

Neither player gave an inch in the decider - both staving off break points to hold their serve.

Another tie-break looked to be on the cards, but Federer, at 5-4 ahead, drew on his years of experience to wrap up victory number 1,000.

The milestone gives Federer plenty of momentum heading into next week's Australian Open.
