American Madison Keys and Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova opened up the WTA International in Sydney.

The rain delayed the start, yet that didn't seem to affect the Russian as she found an early break.

However, heading leading 4-3, Keys found a lucky break to level the set at four all.

The American then at break point for the set & was pushing the World No 25 side-to-side, before she found the winner to take the first set.

That wasn't to be the end of Kuznetsova as she led two love in the second.

However, Keys - the World No 30 - was again commanding the Russian from the back of the court and took the first of three break points.

The second continued on serve until Keys set-up up two points for the match.

Again pushing Kuznetsova deep, the American only needed one chance to finish the game.

6-4, 6-4 as the teenager breezes into the second round in Sydney.
