Stan Wawrinka was able to comfortably defend his title at the Chennai Open, defeating qualifier Aljaz Bedene.

It was Slovakian Bedene's first ATP World Tour Final appearance, while it was Warwinka's seventh year in a row here.

It was the third time the twenty nine year-old had won in Chennai, having previously triumphed in 2011 and 2014.

The Swiss got off to a great start, winning the first set 6-3 in just a mere 30 minutes.

Wawrinka, who faced no break points during the final, needed just one break in the second set to lead 4-3 and one match point to win.

This meant he was able to lift the trophy, without having dropped a set in the entire tournament.

It's the first time in Wawrinka's career that he successfully defended a title, becoming the first back-to-back winner in Chennai since Marin Cilic in 2009 and 2010.

STAN WAWRINKA: "Yeh, it was a great final. I'm really happy with my level for sure. I would really like to congrats Aljaz for his great week."

STAN WAWRINKA: "I'm looking forward to the Australian Open," the fourth-ranked Wawrinka said. "It's going to be a strange feeling to come back as the defending champion in a Grand Slam. But right now, I want to enjoy this trophy. It's not every week you win a trophy and it's really tough to win on the ATP."

It looks like Wawrinka's preparations for defending this Australian open title are looking going to plan.
