In the shadow of the famous Swiss Alps, the Adelboden crowd was out in force for the men's World Cup giant slalom, but they didn't have much to cheer about.

Overall World Cup leader Marcel Hirscher, who has already won two of the season's three giant slaloms, looked to be on course for another victory after his first run.

Norway's Henrik Kristofferson overtook Hirscher on his second run however, as he looked to force his way onto the podium.

But he was quickly superceded by Alexis Pinturault.

The Frenchman dedicated the result to the victims of the Paris terrorists attacks.

He pointed to the words 'Je suis Charlie' written on his helmet as he took the lead.

But Hirscher was simply in a class of his own.

On his second run, the Austrian reclaimed the lead and clinched his third giant slalom win for the season.

He's now 138 points clear of American Ted Ligety in the standings.
