Stanislas Wawrinka and Roberto Bautista-Agut booked their places in the semi-finals of the ATP 250 Chennai Open with straight-sets wins on Friday (9th January).

    Script:

Top seed Stan Wawrinka overcame a tricky second set to advance to the semi-finals of the Chennai Open on Friday.

The Swiss extended his consecutive set winning run in Chennai to 12 as he defeated the eighth seed Gilles Muller 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in one hour, 25 minutes.

Muller broke Wawrinka for 4-2 in the second set, but the defending champion needed just one chance to break back as the two eventually went to a tie-break.

One mini-break was all the Swiss needed to propel himself to a straight-sets win.

The double champion (2011 and 2014) will meet fourth seed David Goffin in the semi-finals on Saturday after the 24-year-old Belgian defeated Andreas Haider-Maurer 7-5, 6-2.

Meanwhile, third seed Roberto Bautista-Agut, runner-up in Chennai two years ago, beat sixth seed Yen-Hsun Lu 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 for a semi-final berth.

The Spaniard will be up against challenge qualifier Aljaz Bedene, who backed up his victory over Feliciano Lopez by beating fifth seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
